Latest Findings from the Meningioma Consortium Study Indicate a Stronger Association With Meningioma and Progesterone Than With Estrogen Status

January 2008 – Cancer Research recently published data from BSF investigators Dr. Elizabeth B. Claus, Ph.D, Dr. Peter Black, Ph.D., and Dr. Rona Carroll, Ph.D, that are the first to examine gene expression for meningioma cases by hormone receptor status. Findings indicate a stronger association with progesterone status than with estrogen status, suggesting that progesterone status may be a clinical marker for genetic subgroups of meningioma.

This data comes from the study of 31 surgical samples of meningioma patients undergoing neurosurgical resection at Brigham and Women’s Hospital  from March 15, 2004, to May 10, 2005. Future research will examine a larger data set.  To read the full abstract published in Cancer Research, Volume 68, Date: 1 January 2008, click here.
